Kettle's Buttermilk Fried Chicken

I'm on the last leg of my Fried Chicken obsession.

I had Lunch at Kettle today.

FGM said, I have to try the Buttermilk Fried Chicken!

And try I did!

The chicken was very juicy and the breading was crunchy.

Yes. Breading = wheat.

I think the corn bread also had wheat but I'm not sure.

An order of Buttermilk Fried Chicken came with 2 dipping sauces and 3 pcs. of corn bread.

You are supposed to drizzle the corn bread with honey but I mixed it with the gravy for the chicken!

Sweet Potato Fries as a side order.

I prefer Sweet Ecstasy's Kamote fries.

The serving was huge! My Ate and I just shared an order.

Our next goal is the potato strips with crunchy belly bits!

I bet that would be divine!

This post marks the end of my Fried Chicken craving.

Hopefully!

Bulalo Date with Haley

I had a Bulalo date with Haley.

She is Tricia's niece. When I learned that she also loves Bulalo, I told her that I would invite her for dinner one day.

So .... Finally... tonight was the night.

Haley with her Bulalo!

I was so happy because she was eating her marrow with gusto! And of course, with Patis and calamansi!

No other way to eat Bulalo.

The Junkies asked me to buy wings for them. We just divided the cost among ourselves.

I cooked it 2 ways....

Thai Fried Chicken

Hermie's Korean Glazed Chicken.

Oh nooooo! I think my fried chicken obsession is about to come to an end!

I don't want to see another chicken wing in a long while.

I hope Haley enjoyed her Bulalo as much as I loved watching her eat!

She reminds me of..... a .... mini ... LIA!

Thai Fried Chicken and Kang Kong with Yellow Beans

I have a Fried Chicken obsession at the moment.

Wings, particularly. Shey said, with the amount of wings we have been eating, soon... We will be able to fly!

I browsed online for a very easy Thai Fried Chicken Recipe. I found one! But replaced the flour with rice flour.

Thai Fried Chicken

1 K. Chicken wings

4 cloves garlic, chopped coarsely

4 roots of wansuy, cleaned and chopped coarsely

10 white peppercorn or 1/4 t. Ground white pepper

1 egg, slightly beaten

2 T. Water

2 T. Light soy sauce

2 T. Tiparos Thai fish sauce

4 T. Rice flour

Pound the garlic, peppercorn and wansuy roots until it turns into paste.

Combine the egg, water, light soy sauce, fish sauce and the paste.

Put the rice flour in a big bowl (enough to hold the chicken wings).

Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the rice flour. Stir until the batter is not lumpy anymore.

Put the wings into the bowl with batter. (No need to marinate.)

Deep fry.

Serve with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce.

Tita Jit gave me this bottle of sweet chili sauce. It came from Bangkok.

The perfect partner for the fried wings is....

Kang Kong with Yellow Beans and Garlic

I found the recipe online!

I am crazy over wings but especially Thai Fried Chicken!

Best eaten with the sauce from Bangkok. You can buy it in Landmark Supermarket.

Sugar and Carbs Confession

My FBS this morning was 243!

"Lia! What have you been eating these past few days?!"

That's my alter ego screaming at me. Her name is Marsha. Once in a while she surfaces from the bottomless pit where she resides. Jing, Celina and Mariger know (of) her.

I have not eaten bread, pasta nor rice but I have been eating carbs in other forms.

Plus .... did I mention the sugar overload?

My food craving du jour is Cheong Fun.

I tried the Vermicelli with Asado from Tim Ho Wan.

I wonder what happened to their Sio mai????

It became so small!

The chili bean sauce is my fave at Tim Ho Wan.

Today's lunch was in Chinatown.

The first stop .... (Yes, first) was at Ying Ying's Tea House.

Guess what I ordered?

Shrimp Cheong Fun. Not so much shrimps, though.

Sio Mai

Taro Puff

The second stop was at Wai Ying.

I just ordered Asado Cheong Fun

And Milk Tea.

My favorite waitress asked me, "Ma'am, diet po?" Hahahaha! She knows I always order a lot even if I am alone.

How did I find space in my stomach?

After my first restaurant, I walked around and checked out the Chinese groceries.

I was able to buy Dried Chilies and a bottle of yellow beans.

While walking along the streets, I bought French Beans and Patola.

Another craving I had to satisfy was Sweet Ecstasy's Milk Shake.

Chocolate Malt - emergency run to Mercury Jupiter but took a side trip with Tricia to Sweet Ecstasy.

Plain Chocolate, had to have my fix. My last day to indulge.

What is the difference Between the 2 milkshakes?

The one with the malt was way too sweet!

Ohhh and the other day in Greenbelt, I just had to have a scoop of my favorite Black Cherry ice cream from Gelatone!

It tasted like Benadryl! I loved it!

Hahahahahaha please don't cringe and say, Eeeewwww! I really love it.

Aside from those sugar and carb laden food.....

I ate different kinds of Kakanin!

Eileen, Dodai, Alex - her husband, and I went to Salcedo Market for breakfast yesterday!

I ate Ilocos Empanada

Taho

And Eileen shared her Bibingka with me.

And last night, my travel buddies and I had a meeting for our upcoming adventure!

They asked me to buy food from Salcedo Market for them.

Sapin Sapin, Kuchinta and Tamales.

Inihaw na Bangus

I asked Cristina to buy Lechon Manok.

Mona cooked the Palitaw.

I just cooked the Ginataang Mais and Mixed Vegetables.

Hermie fried the Bangus Tinapa.

Dra. Cristina also brought Puto flan from one of her patients.

Then Eileen and Dodai had dessert and coffee with us after the Alumni Homecoming!

We could not attend because of our meeting.

We just heard mass and had our picture taken with our Elementary and High School teachers!

Everybody enjoyed looking at our old photographs.

So now..... After indulging in all those sugar and carb sins...

I vow not to eat food high in carbs and sugar anymore.

I have to lower my FBS before I go on a holiday where food is served 24 hours a day!

I am not removing chocolates from my life but will limit my intake. I also do not plan to give away my stash.

Soooo no more Cheong fun!

No more milkshakes!

No more Kakanin!

No more Siomai with wrapper!

Ok.... My confession ends here.

Dodai at The Batcave

My childhood friend, Dodai, is home!!!!

I have not seen her in almost 30 years!

And yet..... It was as though the last time we talked to each other was just yesterday.

Eileen sent me a message last week that she was going to bring a surprise to my house but I was out. I told her to leave the "surprise" with Hermie.

But then she said it would be better if I am home.

She texted me again today if she can drop by the house after lunch, so I said, OK!

I came from the supermarket and bought ingredients for cookies that I was going to serve to Eileen.

I started baking already when I suddenly remembered that Dodai messaged me a few weeks ago to ask for Eileen's address. I put two and two together.

Then it suddenly dawned on me: Dodai is my surprise!

Lo and Behold! Eileen brought my surprise to the house!

I cannot explain how happy I am to see my childhood friend again.

I remember when I was in Gradeschool, during lunch break, we all had gate passes because we live near the school.

Do you know that I would tag along and just go to their house and eat lunch!?!?

I do not think I ever asked permission if I could go home with them.

My usual "victims" were Mia, Josephine, Eileen and Dodai!

I am so glad you are back home, Dodai! Even if it is just for a few years!

And I also love the fact that we live in the same Barangay!

Thank you, Dodai for the cupcakes!

I shared it with my niece and nephew but I ate the icing of one of the cupcakes!

Thank you, Eileen for my wonderful surprise!
