King Chef, Banawe

I went to a different part of Metro Manila today. It was on Banawe Street.

Farther down the road.... Very, very far... I had lunch at King Chef's Chinese Restaurant.

I read a few blogs and ordered what most people generally eat.

Lechon Macau

Steamed Fish with Japanese Tofu

Stuffed Eggplant - the picture did not do justice to this dish. I loved it!

Yang Chow Fried Rice

Almond Jelly with Lychees

Next part of the program....

Dapitan Arcade!

Shey asked: What's in Dapitan Arcade?

Mostly ceramics, Christmas Decors, gift items.... Maybe like Divi, but I have not been there in ages so I would not know?

I was able to buy a small table for my studio unit. I still have to have it painted, though.

Good thing the weather today was ok, it did not rain and there was a cool breeze.

Pork BBQ with Java Sauce

I experimented with another version of Pork BBQ. I do not like the one with ketchup anymore. I just wanted the old-fashioned Pork BBQ that my Lola and I used to make every New Year's Eve. That was our yearly date. We would mix the marinade first and taste it before adding the meat.

I really loved my new recipe! I like it even better than the BBQ we used to sell! The taste made me remember my childhood years. Most of my memories are associated with food.

Ohhhhh and I also experimented with Java sauce! It turned out really delicious! I think even better than Aristrocrat's!

Oooopsss! That's where I get into trouble when I brag about my food. The next time I make it... Does not come out as good. Mom used to remind me all the time to be humble and modest when it comes to my cooking.

Pork BBQ

1/2 K. Pork kasim, sliced thinly

1/4 C. Brown sugar

1/2 t. Rock salt

1/2 t. Freshly cracked black peppercorn

1/2 t. MSG

1 T. Soy sauce

1 T. Knorr Seasoning

1 T. Calamansi juice

1 red chili pepper, chopped

6 cloves garlic, crushed

Mix all the ingredients and marinate in the refrigerator overnight.

Grill using charcoal.

I could not stop eating! I wanted more! But I gave PD and Hermie. I only had 8 sticks of pork BBQ! It was very addicting.

Java Sauce

100 ml. Peanut butter

1/4 C. Water

1/4 C. Soy sauce

1/4-1/2 C. Brown sugar

Boil all the ingredients in a sauce pan until thick and syrupy.

I used the Nasi Goreng rice mix from Indonesia.

Sherman brought it home from Jakarta where he works.

Hahahaha,

*Family/Friend Tree:

Sherman is married to Jing.

Jing is one of my BFFs who is like a sister to me.

Toho Antigua Restaurant

I went to Manila Memorial Park today with Jing. It is our yearly date to bring flowers to our dear departed relatives, my parents and Jing's Dad and sister. We tried to light the candles we brought but it was a windy day.

Of course, this story will not be complete if I do not add a segment about food. Hahaha!

We had lunch at Toho Antigua Restautant on President Avenue, BF Homes. It is an old fashioned kind of Chinese restaurant. Lots of returning customers, mostly families from nearby villages.

I remember, my Mom and I would always eat there after going to the cemetery.

Jing and I ordered Lechon Macau...

Beef with Ampalaya

And an order each of Toho Fried Rice.

Believe it or not, we enjoyed our food! The meat of the lechon was tender, skin was crunchy and the ampalaya was not bitter at all!

Election Weekend Food

I was in the supermarket yesterday and did a little food shopping for the week. Beef Kalitiran for Beef Mechado, chicken for Tinola, a whole chicken - I don't know what to do with it yet, ground beef for Hamburger Steak, pork liempo, pork kasim for BBQ, chicken liver for pate, tahong and vegetables.

I followed the Chicken Liver Pate recipe from my blog.

I ate it with Apple slices since I cannot eat it with Melba toast.

I loved the Tahong soup! I used fresh ginger.

Tahong Soup

1/4 C. Cooking oil

3 cloves garlic, crushed

1 onion, sliced

1 inch knob of ginger, sliced thickly

1 T. Patis

4 C. Water

1 t. Rock salt or to taste

Freshly cracked black pepper

1/2 K. Tahong

Bunch of sili leaves

Heat the oil in a wok or soup pot. Sauté garlic, onions and ginger over low heat for about 3 minutes. Add the patis and continue sautéing until almost reduced.

Add the water, salt and pepper. Adjust according to your taste.

When the broth boils briskly, drop the Tahong and cook until the shells open.

Add the sili leaves and cook for one more minute.

I really enjoyed my Tahong soup. I ate it with the leftover Pancit Sotanghon cooked in pork fat.

Gilly's Birthday Lunch

Gilly celebrated her 14th birthday last week.

I cooked her favorite Children's Sweet Style Spaghetti.

My Ate brought Fried Chicken for the kids but the adults also ate it.

Tita Baby gave me a jar of Mango Chutney. I decided to cook the favorite of PD and my Ate, Chicken Curry

With condiments.

PD brought down her Waitrose Mango Chutney with her "jar spoon"!

I also cooked the Shrimps in Red Egg Yolk Sauce.

Kuya got Gilly cake from Conti's.

I prefer Magnolia ice cream over the other brands.

We were so lucky because Renzo was in a good mood and decided to join us!

Even if he is my neighbor, I rarely see him.

My whole family was here for lunch! Even Kuya Nicky with his girlfriend, Cy!

Time flies so fast!

I am so grateful I am a part of the lives of my nieces, Gilly and Sophie. I have seen them grow up from tiny tots

to beautiful young ladies!

Happy Birthday, Gilly! I love you! Hugsssss and kisses from Tata!

Wheat-free Chicken Nuggets

I am very inspired to continue my wheat-free lifestyle. My sugar went down by 80 points since I started last September 1.

I cooked spaghetti sauce this afternoon for Gilly's birthday celebration tomorrow. I used the White Rice Pasta Happy gave me.

But for the rest of the family, ordinary spaghetti noodles only.

My very first pasta dish since September!

The pasta tasted like al dente spaghetti noodles.

I also cooked wheat-free Corn Tortilla Encrusted Chicken Nuggets! I got the recipe from Martha Stewart's website.

I ground the corn tortillas.

It looked like fine corn meal.

Then the usual breading technique....

Instead of flour, I dredged the chicken breast fillet in cornstarch, then dipped in beaten egg and rolled in ground corn tortillas.

Fried in oil until light brown on both sides.

Best eaten with home made salsa!

The chicken nuggets were not dry at all! So tender and moist.

And let us not forget to drink it with Frozen Margarita!

I plan to buy Margarita glasses soon!

I am very happy that my experiment was a success!

I will try it with fish fillet next time or bake it in the oven.

Thai Dinner with my KST Senior Friends

I invited my KST Senior and Junior Friends for Thai Dinner.

I promised Tita Baby, Tita Coret and Tita Ope, my "post - KST session meeting" table mates that I would cook healthy wheatfree food for them.

Crispy Catfish Salad

Pad Thai

Bagoong Fried Rice

Shrimps in Salted Egg Yolk Sauce

Dessert was Sweet Banana with Coconut cream.

Tricia brought Bagnet.

I loved it! My first time to try the Bagnet from Salcedo Market.

Shey was in charge of our cheese curls.

We also ate the Cheesy Dip of Tricia and the Stonewall Chile con Queso Sauce.

I missed Mona and Cat. They were not able to join us tonight.

We all enjoyed the evening!

We had so many stories to share, lots of funny moments and some serious bits from our Senior friends.

I really feel so blessed that my circle of friends is getting bigger!

More friends = More food!
