Baby Pusit at Mesa, Rockwell

I had lunch again at Mesa, Rockwell today with PD.

We ordered the Baby Pusit in Olive oil.

I was surprised it was very delicious and tender. It was like Salpicao. I wonder why their Pusit was not watery. When I cook mine, it turns out so wet and soupy. I would like to practice when I buy the baby Pusit at Farmer's Market in Cubao.

PD liked the Grilled Liempo.

Ohhhh wonderful! I was able to try the Pork Sinigang with Pineapple and Guava!

I like the food at Mesa's, simple yet flavorful Filipino cuisine.

Sunday Lunch with Friends!

I was very happy I had friends over for lunch!

Good thing I already cooked Adobo last night so it was not much of a hassle.

Mona's family brought Pancit Bihon.

I texted Mayette if she wanted to join us and she said, Yes! She asked me what I wanted from Legazpi Market. I asked her to buy Wansoy and soft drinks.

I also cooked Sinigang na Hipon. It is one of the easiest meals to prepare. I just used Knorr Sinigang mix.

Ohhhhhh and guess what!?!?!?

I am SOOOOOOO proud of myself!

I already know how to cook rice! I used the rice cooker, it turned out ok.

And then I used an ordinary pot! I did not use any measuring cup, just followed Mayette's instructions. I have observed her several times.... She lets the rice boil on high, then when the liquid has almost dried up, she lowers the heat.

The result? Perfect! So soft and not crunchy at all like my pervious attempts.

And the best part? I did not use a Teflon coated pot but there was no tutong on the bottom of the pot.

Congratulations, Lia!

Up to now, I still cannot get over the fact that my rice was cooked perfectly!

Lots and lots of :) :) :)

Till We Meet Again, Pinky!

Pinky is leaving next week for the US and my friends and I had a little despedida for her at my "unfinished" house. I am not done yet with the renovations but I just had to organize this gathering for her.

The early birds went to Yamato Bakery on Jupiter St. to try the Cronuts.

I had the Vanilla Cronuts.

The crew of Bandila was filming a segment re: Cronuts and they asked if they could interview me!

OMG! Embarrassing because I was just wearing "house clothes"!

It is something I would wear to buy bread at the corner or go to Rustan's Rockwell to buy vinegar!

Hahahaha! I did not expect to be interviewed by a TV crew! If they do not edit my segment, I will come out on TV on Monday. I think, Bandila airs at 11 pm.

We went back to my house for dinner.

They (Tricia, Jodie, Miko and Tin) asked me to cook Kare Kare

Butter Garlic Shrimps

And to buy Pinky's request, Pichi Pichi with Cheese.

I asked Janette to get us Bailon's Fresh Lumpiang Ubod.

Bibo and Sarita brought Inutak

Kamote Chips

2 boxes of Napoleones

and drinks!

We had so much fun! We were laughing and laughing when we were talking about our favorite subjects.

We even chatted with Lisa via FaceTime. She asked, what is the commotion about?! Hahaha I told her we were just that loud!

Bibo also gave culinary and make up tips!

Ohhhh Pinky! You have not left yet but I miss you already!

She always asks for a get together when she is in town.

Take care and see you next year!

P.S.

I already received an early birthday gift! From Jodie, Miko and Tricia!

Thank you so much!!!!!!

Mesa's Boneless Crispy Pata

I was invited by Corry for lunch at the newly opened Mesa in Rockwell.

Mona and I were so excited because we wanted to order the Boneless Crispy Pata. Jing said it was really good.

Ohhhh my! It was.... So... Yum! Hahahaha I am not a crispy pata eater but I liked the fact that the skin was very thin. The vinegar dipping sauce was perfect. It was like eating a baby crispy Pata! I can finish a whole order!

We also ordered Sinigang na Salmon.

I can't wait to go back to Mesa with Jing! We have a standing Sinigang na Baboy in Pineapple date!

Bacon Cheeseburger

My friend, Lisa, who lives in New York always sends me pictures of food she has eaten. She checks out my blog often so she also knows what I have been eating. We chat via FaceTime and do a "show and tell" of our goodies. She loves all the Filipino snacks and I love her US made junk food!

One of the pictures she sent me was her dinner the other night, Bacon Cheeseburger with onion strings and seasoned fries!

I could not get the picture out of my head....so I made my own today!

My interpretation of Double Bacon Cheeseburger.

I used Emmental Cheese and cooked the burger patties in bacon grease!

I think my whole neighborhood could smell what I was cooking! I had to hide inside my room for fear that my "neighbors" would all descend upon me and my food!

Hahaha Don't get me wrong.... I love feeding people! But if I did not invite you.... Do NOT eat my food!

And then...... My "neighbor" knocked on my bedroom door!

What to do? What to do? What to do with my double bacon cheeseburger?

I do not have a closet anymore in room because I relocated it in another place. Good thing I saw my night table and hid the plate of my sandwiches in the space under the drawer.

Even Wriggly was going crazy outside my bedroom door! I know my neighbor will not see the plate but Wriggly would!

So I closed the door before the 4 legged culprit discovers my secret.

I was able to enjoy my merienda in peace but all the time I was apprehensive that I will be busted!

Ahhhhhh..... So now you know why I am the way I am! Hahahahaha! I do not think I will ever lose weight!

Santouka, Hokkaido Ramen

I had my monthly lunch with my Senior friends today at Santouka, Hokkaido Ramen, Glorietta. We were there very early because the place gets filled up with customers easily.

I was with Tita Tess, Tita Mita,

Tita Josie and PD.

Too bad Tita Butchie was not able to join us because she was not feeling well.

Tita Josie and I both had the Spicy Ramen but I did not get the salmon sushi set.

Pd and Tita Mita had the Salt-based Ramen.

Pd also ordered the Char siu pao.

Tita Mita tried the Chicken Gyoza.

Tita Tess had a late breakfast, so she just had chawan mushi and char siu pao.

The nice thing about the restaurant is that there are 3 serving sizes to choose from: small, regular and large.

We had our dessert at Vanilla Cupcake Bakery,

Ohhhhhhh now I know why I should not have eaten a cupcake! The frosting was too sweet for a diabetic like me!

I tried the Coffee Walnut Salted Caramel.

But for the non-diabetics.... The cupcakes were just right for them.

Cronuts!

I was so happy when I discovered that Yamato Japanese Bakery, Jupiter St. is selling Cronuts!

"Cronuts" is a cross between croissants and donuts!

The dough of a croissant but deep-fried, filled and glazed like a donut!

I tried the Strawberry flavored Cronuts .....

With Strawberry Filling.

Sophia, my merienda date, had the Chocolate Cronuts!

I prefer the strawberry over the chocolate.

I have yet to try the Vanilla Cronuts.

RK Garden, Twice in a Week!

I ate at RK Garden, Jupiter twice in a week!

Corry and Mona invited me for lunch last Sunday.

We had....

Crabmeat with Corn Soup

Fried Noodles with Assorted Meat

Fish with Tausi

Salt and Pepper Spareribs.

Then tonight..... I had dinner with Miko, Tricia and Pinky!

We ordered the .....

Steamed Chicken Feet

Hototay Soup

Yang Chow Fried Rice

Beef with Broccoli

Salt and Pepper Squid

We did not finish our food because the servings were bigger than usual.

RK even gave us a discount because I am a "Frequent" customer. I often have food delivered to my house.

I have yet to try the other dishes!

Wriggly Chronicles

I am renovating my house and my little "foreman" is Wriggly!

He always checks out what my carpenter is doing. Sometimes, he would literally breath down his neck when the worker is crouching down and doing something. Hahaha He is soooo cute!

One time, I saw Wriggly trying his very best to peep inside my new bathroom but we placed some boxes so he could not enter. He jumped on top of the box! He probably wanted to know the progress of my very, very "slow" worker.
