Happy Birthday Sophie!

It was the 14th birthday of Sophie yesterday! She was not home for lunch because she was at Bel-Air's Chess Tournament. I told her to come home early but apparently, win or lose, you have to wait for the awarding ceremony.

Her birthday cake was from Dairy Queen.

Her baby brother, Renzo, was so sweet. He said he was going to give her Ate Pia a birthday gift.

He was so excited to the point the he almost could not breathe in anticipation.....

.....waiting expectantly what Sophie's reaction would be.

I told Renzo I would also invite him to my birthday party so I can receive his very special "gift".

Cousin Gilly was Soph's special guest.

My Kuya's birthday gift to Sophie was an Ipad mini.....

And a new bicycle!

Gilly helped her

..... but eventually she learned on her own.

Way to go!

Happy Birthday Sophie!

Saturday Lunch.....

Finally! I was able to eat Inihaw na Liempo!

Hermie was the one who grilled it and I took my anti allergy meds before she fired the grill.

As usual, my family did not eat the meat of the Bulalo soup, just the broth but PD ate the yummy beef marrow!

Mona taught me how to make Pancit Bihon.

My Kuya was surprised it tasted good because I usually do not cook good Pancit. I added my secret ingredient at the end.

Pancit Bihon

1 chicken breast, boiled and flaked

6 C. Chicken broth

500 g. Golden Q Bihon noodles, rinsed but not soaked

Garlic, chopped

Onion, sliced

2 pcs. Chinese sausage, sliced

Carrot, julienned

Green beans, sliced diagonally

Cabbage, shredded

2 pcs. Knorr beef cube

2 T. Knorr seasoning

2 T. Oyster sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

*Secret ingredient

Sauté garlic and onion.

Add the Chinese sausage then the flaked chicken followed by the carrots, beans and cabbage.

Pour the soup stock, season with Knorr beef cube, Knorr seasoning, oyster sauce, salt and pepper.

When vegetables are crisp tender, remove from the broth together with the meat.

When the broth is boiling, add the rinsed Bihon noodles. When cooked, put back the meat and vegetables.

Then add the SECRET ingredient.... 1/4 C Turbo Lechon Kawali oil drippings!

Big difference in taste! Plus.... Pancit was shiny ang glistening with lard!

I always tell my guests about my secret ingredient after they had their fill. Hehehehehe, Paul, Mona's brother is always wary of food coming from my kitchen. He is very health conscious.

Mangetsu Lunch with the Seniors

Time flies really so fast! I had another lunch date with my Senior Citizen friends last Monday at Mangetsu on Jupiter St.

We all had our own orders.....

PD and Tita Butchie ordered the Chicken Kakiage.

Tita Josie had the Salmon Sashimi and Soba Noodles.

Tita Mita ordered the Katsudon Set.

Tita Tess was running a bit late so she asked me to order for her... mixed Sashimi set....

I just took the pictures quickly because I did not want them to wait so photos are not as vivid as I want them to be.

I was able to concentrate on my Chicken Teriyaki set.... Took a close up shot of my food.

We had our dessert at the nearby Yamato Bakery. Vicky, one of my faithful readers, said I should try the Strawberry Shortcake.

Another day spent with my favorite senior friends!

See you in May!

The Wriggly Chronicles

Look at my baby's new summer cut!

What have you been eating, Lia?

I was not able to post in my blog because I could not stop reading an ebook. It was book 2 of a suspense thriller I read the other day.

So, what have I been eating these past few days?

Tried the new Japanese Ramen place on Jupiter St. called Mitsuyado Sei-Men

Jocelyn said I should try the Tan Tan Men.

I liked their Prawn Tempura!

....ordered the Gyoza.

I also tried the Choux Cream from the adjacent Yamato Japanese Bakery.

I have been to RK Garden Chinese Seafood Restaurant several times this week.

I really like the Yang Chow Fried Rice. Very flavorful and I always feel sleepy after the meal.

Tried other dishes.....

Seafood Fried Noodles

Eggplant with Minced Pork Hot Pot

Sweet and Sour Pork

Hototpay Soup

Fish Fillet with Tausi

RK Garden Fried Chicken

Asado Siopao

Ham soy kok.

Lately, Jing and I have been frequenting S&R. We both love breakfast food.

Jimmy Dean Biscuit Sausage Egg and Cheese Sandwiches.

We also bought the sausage links.

I ate mine with pancakes.

I thought I would start my wheat-free diet after Easter but I am really doing my best not to eat food with wheat.

So..... That was what I ate this week. Not all at the same time, mind you.

Jona's Favorites

Jona is in town and she requested for her favorite Filipino food.

My Kare-Kare from scratch and Chicken Adobo!

She said, she always looks forward to our get together with Jing.

Too bad, Mariger was not able to join us this time but Mona came late. She brought Inutak for Jona.

We always have fun and laugh out so loud because of our funny stories!

We were all envious of her recent trip to Inasakan, Occidental Mindoro!

Until your next visit, Jona!!!!

RK Garden Chinese Seafood Restaurant

The restaurant just opened less than 2 weeks ago. It is very near my house. Pd said the Tai Pao was very good! I told her I wanted to try it.

HUGE Tai Pao

With lots of chunky filling.... Not ground.... So you can still identify the ingredients.

It is served with sweet hoisin-like sauce.

Wanton Mami

Big serving!

Oyster Cake

My 3rd for the week.... I want the gooey oyster cake I have eaten in Binondo before. I have yet to find something similar to it.

Will try the other dishes next time.... My new "neighborhood" dining place.
