Mayette's All-Day Birthday Celebration

Mayette celebrated her birthday all day long!

The day started very early. Mona and I were at their house at 10 a.m. We then proceeded to Cafe Lidia in Marikina. The restaurant looked nondescript on the outside but such a huge place inside with different seating capacities. One area could sit 80, the other area about 50. There are several function rooms for 200, 150 and 100!

The menu was like a TGIF kind of restaurant but the prices were very reasonable and surprisingly.... The food was good and the service was fast.

Her family and I occupied 2 long tables

And we ate several orders of.....

Buffalo Chicken Wings

Fish and Chips

Fried Mozzarella

House Salad

Potato Salad

Baby Back Ribs

Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce

Spaghetti Bolognese

Shrimp and Garlic Pizza

Beef Salpicao

Steak with Mashed Potatoes

Boneless Fried Chicken

After lunch we all went to Discovery Suites Hotel where we had our dessert at their 1 Br suite.

Butter Cake from Estrel's

Sans Rival baked by Tita Letty.

We just stayed in for dinner. I cooked the tapa Mayette bought at Farmer's.

Yum!!!!!!! I cannot wait to eat it again. IMO, it is the best tapa!

Joy brought Steamed Crabs

Laing

And.... Binagoongan with vegetables

I enjoyed our lunch at Cafe Lidia but I loved our food for dinner. There is nothing like eating Filipino comfort food.

Mark and Cindy were able to join us after dinner.

They brought wine

and cold cuts - Coppa, Chorizo, Manchego with olive oil and Brie with Truffle filling.

I loved the Coppa and the Brie with Truffle

Mayette, I am very glad I was able to spend the whole day and night with you and your family.

I truly enjoyed myself and loved the food, as always!

Wishing you a very happy birthday, Mayette!

Until next year!

Dim Sum Lunch with my KST Friends

I have a new set of friends, they are from my KST group and they also love to eat!

Hmmmm.... All my friends love to eat! People who do not love to eat are not welcome in my life! Hehehe.

Tricia, Shey, Mona and I had dim sum at Jasmine Cantonese Restaurant, New World Hotel.

We tried the all time favorites and some new ones.....

Pork Sio Mai

Hargao

Chicken Feet

Spareribs

Spinach Dumplings

Mushroom Dumplings

Congee with Shredded Pork and Century Eggs

Baked Barbecue Puffs

Shrimp with Cheese Springrolls and Fried Wanton

Taro Puff

Wagyu Beef Mango Roll

Ham Suy Kok and Radish Puff

Shey had Buchi but Tricia, Mona and I did not have space in our bellies anymore!

I had so much fun with the girls, even if they are very slim and fit, we still talked about my most favorite topic in the world!

Food!

And we already planned our next foodie session.

Uh oh! Watch out, Shey and Tricia!

When I first started hanging out with Mona, her weight was less than 100! Now.... It is more! Hehehehe!

Until the next time, girls!

Lunch at Jona's

Jona is in town with her kids. We had lunch at her new townhouse. Every time she comes to Manila for a visit, we always have a Kare Kare date. I also asked her to cook something for me! I always see in Facebook the delicious food she lovingly prepares for her kids.

Jing and Mona joined us today.

Jona prepared an appetizer ......

Small packets filled with smoked tinapa then topped something akin to Salsa....

Hahahaha and ignorant little me thought the little white squares were tokwa!

It was Feta Cheese!

I loved the spaghetti! This is exactly the taste I am looking for!

The sauce clung to the noodles and it was perfect! I am going to cook this. It's just garlic, salt, canned tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese!

Jing loved the Chicken Parmigiana!

So generous with the mozzarella cheese!

Jona also served Shrimps cooked in butter

And...

Sweet and Sour Lapu Lapu!

The Kare Kare I cooked today had tripe and oxtail!

I have to say...lt is one of my best Kare Kare ever!

Cooked with love for Jona!

I always serve the vegetables separately so you can freeze the leftover Kare Kare for a couple of weeks and just add boiled veggies next time.

Mona brought Paksiw na Liempo

.... Beef Mechado

And Cuchinta from Imus.

Jing brought Pichi Pichi with cheese from Amber's.

We were so full we had to stand up after lunch!

Hahahaha I even lifted my top to show them my tummy! They said not to do it again! Aha hahahaha!

Jona! Thanks again for inviting us! We super enjoyed ourselves.

Tsalap! Tsalap!

Until your next visit!

I Love Breakfast Food!

My most favorite meal of the day is breakfast!

But...... I can never wake up early enough to enjoy it.

So I had "breakfast" for dinner!

I've been craving for pancakes these past few days!

I already tried all the brands out there in the market. My favorite is Maya Fluffy n' Tasty!

PD bought the Maya Quick n' Easy and she did not like it. I told her just to get the Fluffy one.

My pancakes were sooooo light and fluffy! I added 1/4 t. Baking powder and 2 more tablespoons of water. If I don't, the pancakes will turn out dense and heavy.

Of course.... The perfect partner is Aunt Jemima Syrup. I do not like any other brand.

One time, Lisa and I were chatting via FaceTime and she was eating Libby's Vienna Sausage! I bought in Rustan's today but I still prefer Purefoods. Sophie said, I should try the red Libby's next time. I also shared my pancakes with her. She said it was really good unlike the pancakes her yayas cooked which tasted like cardboard.

Fried egg! Ohhhhh Lookeeee!

Perfectly fried egg, in my opinion. This is the way I like my sunny side up. I do not want it with crust on the bottom. Mayette prefers it that way, though. I used a non-stick skillet over low heat.

I am very happy :) Happy Tummy!

Steamed Fish with Oyster Sauce

I experimented with a different version of Steamed Fish tonight. I bought Tilapia from SM this afternoon and I did not want to fry it, although it would taste good eaten with French butter and kalamansi.

I prefer this version better than my other Steamed Fish recipe.

Steamed Fish with Oyster Sauce

1. K Tilapia or any white meat fish

1/2 t. Salt

1/2 t. Sugar

Season fish with salt and sugar and steam for 10 minutes.

Sauce

4 stalks leeks, cut into 3 inch length

1 inch knob of ginger, shaved (use a peeler)

3 T. Knorr Seasoning

3 T. Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce

1 T. White sugar

1/4 C. Chicken stock or water

1 t. Sesame oil

Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl.

2 T. Cooking oil

Heat the oil until very hot. Add the sauce mixture. When it boils, pour over the fish and steam for 10 minutes more.

So perfect with Stir-fried Garlic Kangkong.

Belly Tired

I am "belly" tired today! I had Dim Sum lunch at Jasmine Cantonese Restaurant, New World Renaissance Hotel with Corry, Jing and Mayette.

We started eating at 11:30 and finished at 1:30! Good thing, I wore my eating dress :)

Mona could not join us because she was very busy making 5 trays of Lasagna.

We had several orders of:

Pork Sio Mai, Steamed Spareribs and Steamed Chicken Feet

Steamed Barbecue Buns and Hargao

Baked Barbecue Pastry Puff, Wagyu Beef Mango Roll and Shrimp and Cheese Spring Roll

Ham Suy Kok and Taro Puff with Seafood Filling

Shrimp Wanton and Vegetable Dumpling

Sio Long Bao

Sesame Buns and Masachi with Chocolate Filling.

So now..... You understand why I am "belly, belly" tired?
