Happy Birthday to the Septembrants!

Three members of the Ka Escapade group are celebrating their birthdays this September.

Mona(16), Doc Tricia (27) and Doc Miko (17).

The get together was held at Miko's house in Pasig!

Their house has a Filipino inspired theme with lots of whimsical things.

I am not usually fond of native looking houses but I love Miko's.

The evening started with lots of story sharings and snacks!

Before heading to Miko's, Doc Bernie, Doc Tricia and I went to Iko's bakery!

I love their potato bread! I also bought cheeseroll and baby cheese pan de sal.

They have Hermie's favorite! Kalihim! I bought it for her.

But Doc Bernie and I tried a piece each. Hahahaha Sorry Hermie!

Our food for dinner.....

Ohhhh!!! I can't stand it! I'm a little OC when it comes to food! The silver food tray is not straight! It will haunt me for quite a while!

I cooked Lumpiang Hubad for the gang.

Nam prik ong for the boys.

Mona brought bilo-bilo

And Fish with Tofu.

Jodie got us 2 flavors of ice cream. Double Dutch and Coffee Crumble.

Dodai brought puto-kuchinta with Cheese!

Tricia and Miko ordered....

Ado's Pancit

Max's Fried Chicken

Crispy Pata

Our "special guest" was able to join us via video call!

She also asked me to buy a cake for the Septembrants!

Costa Brava's Mocha Cake.

We really missed you, Pinky!

Hope you come home soon! We will be waiting at the airport with tarpaulin banners and our empty eco bags!!!

Happy birthday, Tricia, Miko and Mona!

I have a feeling we will have another celebration this month!

Children's Sweet Style Spaghetti Sauce

My very first cooking experiement when I was 9 years old was Spaghetti Sauce.
Over the next few years I've tried different recipes until I have perfected it according to my taste and apparently to the taste of my family and friends.
Children's Sweet Style Spaghetti Sauce (good for 500 grams uncooked noodles)
1/4 C. Cooking oil
2 T. Garlic, minced
1/2 C. Onions, chopped
1/4 C. Green pepper, chopped
500 gr. Ground beef
500 gr. Del Monte Tomato sauce
1/4 C. Pickle relish
1/2 C. White sugar
1/2 T. fine salt
1/2 T. MSG ( optional but not for me)
1/4 t. Ground black pepper
Saute garlic, onions and green pepper in oil until soft over medium heat.
Add the ground beef. Mash the beef with the back of the spoon so it is not lumpy.
Continue sauteing until the liquid evaporates and oil has been rendered from the beef.
Add the tomato sauce....
Pickle relish
Sugar and the rest of the ingredients.
When it begins to boil, lower heat and cook for 45 minutes stirring every 5 minutes.
Do NOT remove the oil or else it will not taste good.
I do not put cheese on my spaghetti only because I do not like cheese but try it first without. You will notice it is well seasoned already.

Super Sweet Spaghetti

Same ingredients and procedure as above but with a few addition and changes.

1. No green pepper
2. Add 3/4 C. sugar instead of 1/2 C.
3. Use Del Monte Sweet Style Spaghetti Sauce.
4. Add 6 pcs, Purefoods classic hotdog, sliced

Bulalo!

There's no other way to call it but Bulalo!

That yummy buttery goodness! And I literally mean, GOOD!

Marrow is good for the body. It is considered good choelesterol.

Monounsaturated fat.

Another example of monounsaturated fat is Olive oil. Are you going to remove olive oil from your diet because it is fat?!

Hahahahaha. OK, I will not convince you anymore! More for me!

My Ate and Kuya were so happy! I thought my Kuya only eats healthy food.

But I was surprised he ate a whole serving! I saw him put a small amount of rice on a saucer, put the marrown on top, poured hot soup and added a dash of patis!

Bulalo Heaven!

I ate a little rice with my marrow.

Green mangoes and bagoong from Tricia!

For my other family members who do not eat marrow (Thank you, Lord!), I cooked Fried Chicken and sidings for them.

I followed a youtube video Fried Chicken Recipe.

Pat dry the chicken pieces.

Use any breading mix you like but I used my Lunch Box Chicken recipe.

Lift the skin of the chicken partly from the meat and dredge with the breading mix. Shake off excess breading and lay on the tray. Do this for all the chicken pieces before you fry.

Heat the oil until it reaches 165F.

Deep fry until golden brown or follow my Lunch Box Chicken instructions.

Use a cooling rack to let the oil drip instead of paper towel.

I asked Hermie to buy sweet corn from Guadalupe and told her to get corn with small kernels.

I think it was native corn, not Japanese corn that was why it was so sweet. Not the artificial sweetness from Genetically Modified Japanese corn.

Of course, the kids like mashed potatoes with gravy.

I put the rest of the meat, vegetables and soup in the slowcooker so it will remain piping hot throughout our meal.

Too bad PD had to go somewhere today. She would have loved the bone marrow!

I will have to order again the bone marrow from my suki Rustan's butcher.

I Love My New Kawali

I have a new kawali (Wok) and I love it! It is stainless steel and I bought it at MK Kitchen at Farmer's Plaza in Cubao.

I think this is what the street vendors in Southeast Asia use!

It was such a delight cooking my Char Kway Teow experiment in this wok.

Pair it together with the turbo Kalan I bought from Bambi, PERFECT!

I used pork lard for my experiment.

My ingredients for the Char Kway Teow. The recipe is in the archives.

The noodles did not stick to the wok!

It was like using a non-stick pan!

Plus you get that burnt taste that you cannot achieve when you use ordinary wok and stove.

I cannot wait to use my new kawali again!
