Steak Night

I saw my "Fairy Godmother" (Cindy) in Rockwell this afternoon. We were talking about what we wanted to eat for the day. I told her that I was defrosting a T-Bone steak for dinner. She was also defrosting steak for dinner. What a coincidence! I asked her how she cooks her steak: Pan-fried in olive oil and butter, seasoned with pepper and garlic powder.

I rarely cook steak because I do not know how to season nor cook it perfectly.

Using Cindy's method as a guide .... My T-Bone steak turned out well, I think!?

I was actually surprised.

I just seasoned with freshly cracked black pepper, Lea Perrins and Maggi Garlic liquid seasoning.

I did not use olive oil because I do not like the taste that much, instead, I used about 1/4 C. Cooking oil and 1 T. Butter and pan-fried the meat for about 4 - 5 minutes per side.

After I removed the steak from the pan, I wrapped it in aluminum foil and let it rest for 10 minutes.

I made mashed potatoes and gravy but I did not pour the gravy anymore on the meat because the natural juices of the steak was enough for me.

I checked out online the steak cooking stages:

Rare - red inside with plenty of red juice running freely.

Medium rare - same as rare, but with few free flowing juices and still red in the very middle.

Medium - pink ( fading to grey-brown ) with juices in the middle. The outside is grey-brown.

Medium well - the meat is grey-brown ( or deep pink) throughout, still juicy.

Well done - the meat is grey-brown throughout and slightly blackened or charred.

I wonder which stage of cooking did my steak turn out?

PD would have loved the FAT!

Mini Rice Cooker

I have a new rice cooker and it is very small! 1.5 C. Capacity, got it at SM.

I know how to cook almost anything but would you believe I do not know how to cook rice?

Well..... Maybe I used to know how to cook rice but I have forgotten it already.

I was very successful with my attempt!

I just used 1 C (150 grams) of rice.

The yield was more than 2 Cups.

I still had a lot of leftovers because I only eat about half a cup of rice per meal.

I had Adobong Pusit (fresh from Farmer's) with my steamed white rice.

I am mighty proud of myself!

Cheese Ramen at Mitsuyado Men

I read several reviews about the Cheese Ramen of Mitsuyado Men.

The ramen noodles have grated cheese ( Parmesan perhaps?) on top.

Next step would be to pour the cheese sauce on the noodles.

Then before eating, dip the "cheesy" ramen in the flavorful broth.

New way of enjoying ramen!

I am not a cheese lover so I cannot comment much about it. The only thing I remembered was that after dipping the noodles in the broth, I thought it tasted like "Lechon Paksiw"! Hahahaha probably wishful thinking on my part. Well.... That was just my opinion.

I ordered Ebi Tempura... One of my favorites tempura in Manila.

Tried also the Chicken Terriyaki....

Dessert was the Strawberry shaved ice!

Mitsuyado Men is always full, so better come early for a parking slot.

IHOP Pancake Syrup

Look what I have?! IHOP Pancake syrup!

I asked my Ate to buy me pancake syrup in the US. I invited a few friends over for brunch.

I cooked pancakes

And Hormel Little Sizzlers.

We had Bacon.... Courtesy of Jing and Mona....

Sam and Michelle brought goodies from Santi's....

Wienerli sausages

And.... Drinks, iced tea and orange juice.

We wiped out the whole spread! I made baby pancakes as opposed to large ones. People tend to eat more if they are smaller.

I do not know why I love breakfast food so much, whether they are pancakes or "tapsilog".

Hahahaha... Maybe because I cannot wake up early enough to enjoy breakfast that is why it is such a novelty for me.

Garage Sale Breakfast

Cath, Candy and Carla held a garage sale at my house this morning.

Ohhhh hahahaha the first letter of their names starts with "C"!

I was not ready with my things yet so I did not join them. Mona and I were just spectators but not during breakfast!

They brought food to share with everybody.

Cath brought Kesong Puti and Pan de sal.

Carla also brought Pan de sal but the Jumbo ones and bottled Spanish Sardines.

Cabanatuan longasinisa from Candy!

I just opened a can of Delimondo Chili Garlic Corned Beef.

I love breakfast food! Too bad I did not have butter. I told them half a bar of butter can last for 3 months unless I use it for baking.

They were very happy because now they have more space in their closets! Cath's 8 year old daughter, Marta, was such a strict salesperson! No haggling allowed! Hahahaha!

I do enjoy it when I hold garage sales with my friends because I know we are going to eat breakfast until we are about to explode!

Mah Jong Lunch

We had our Mah Jong Lunch at Mona's house in Alabang Hills today.

We have been planning this activity for weeks! We just play for fun and we do not pay each other with money.... Well...imaginary money only when somebody wins.

Of course, it is just an excuse to eat!

I was just telling Tita Cena earlier.....our food was just simple Filipino food, not gourmet food and yet we enjoyed ourselves.

She said, it was because of the company plus the fact that the food was cooked with love as opposed to just buying from a restaurant.

Mayette and Jon were assigned to bring their famous Chicken and Pork Adobo.

Mona asked me to cook Bicol Express.

Jing's contribution was Rellenong Bangus.

Corry's was Adobong Pusit.

Mon cooked Steamed Lapu-Lapu.

Eric and Tricia's were the Ilocos Emapanada ....

And Tortang Talong.

Mona bought shrimps in the market and we just steamed it.

Tita Cena made sautéed fish eggs.

Mariger and her kids brought dessert, Pistachio and Rocky Road ice cream but they arrived a bit late so I was not able to take pictures.

Our snacks or what we fondly call "kutkutin"..... Cornicks from Ilocos, mini anchovy spring rolls from Singapore and goodies from Japan.

Mona even prepared merienda! Ginataang Mais!

I wanted to eat and eat and eat but I was so full already! I really loved the food today. We are already planning our next Mah Jong lunch.

It is Mon's birthday on the 16th..... We got him a gift and a little cake.... Hahahaha ok! A tiny cake...

We sang Happy Birthday to him.

Mariger got him a Chocolate birthday cup cake.

Happy Birthday, Mon!

FYI..... I think I won the most number of times! Hahahaha But Mon might object.
